Methodology and learning style

A child is like a growing sapling. It is to be showered with love and nurtured with care in the light of education. We at Little Star Academy follow a very light and planned schedule so that students do not take education as burden but enjoy it. Our activity-based learning and the audio-visual teaching methodology makes learning easy and impactful. Regular tests and evaluation make studying a smooth process. We do not believe in overloading kids with lot of home work. A child’s only task at home is to share with his parents the knowledge he or she has gained in the school everyday.

The Theory of Multiple Intelligences: An excellent tool to education

Howard Gardner, a great developmental psychologist at the Harvard University provided a new insight into the paradigm of education. Traditional education values only literacy and numeracy. But student centric learning is far beyond it. Howard has identified eight different types of intelligences that each individual has the capacity to possess. This is known as Multiple Intelligence. The idea is important because it allows educators to identify differing strengths and weaknesses in students and also contradicts the idea that intelligence can be measured through IQ. Even a slow learner has the capability to excel. Education at Little Star Academy is based on Gardner’s Theory of Intelligence.

Gardner’s list of intelligences includes:

Linguistic Intelligence – Involves sensitivity to spoken and written language developed at Little Star Academy via extensive reading, writing, speaking, and conversing.

Logical and Mathematical Intelligence – Comprises of number and computing skills focused at Little Star Academy via mathematics and science experiments and projects, vedic mathematic and logical ability sessions, stock-market games.

Visual-Spatial Intelligence – Consists of visual perception of the environment, the ability to create and manipulate mental images that is enhanced at Little Star Academy via sketching, painting, photography and exhibitions.

Bodily-Kinesthetic Intelligence – Involves physical coordination and dexterity, using fine and gross motor skills developed at Little Star Academy through physical activities like athletics, sports, karate, yoga and dance.

Musical Intelligence – Is concerned with the understanding and expressing oneself through music and rhythmic movements that is made possible at Little Star Academy through the melody of classical and contemporary music both composing and playing.

Interpersonal Intelligence – Involves understanding how to communicate with and understand other people and how to work collaboratively preached at Little Star Academy via team work activities, group projects, march past, group dance, team sports and school clubs.

Intrapersonal Intelligence – Entails the capacity to understand one’s inner world of emotions and thoughts, and growing in the ability to control them which is improved at Little Star Academy through counselling and meditation.

Naturalist Intelligence – Involves understanding the natural world of plants and animals, noticing their characteristics, and categorizing them. It is ameliorated at Little Star Academy via biological experiments, wild-life observation, botanical garden visits, kitchen gardening and environmental education.

One on One Mentor and Remedial Classes

Every student at our institute is allotted a mother figure that is a mentor which is a faculty from the school. The mentor follows the graph of the individual personally and regularly to keep a close watch on the growth of the child both academically and psychologically. Remedial classes are arranged in the last week of every month for the students who need extra attention to culminate their weaknesses and for the students who have missed any part of the curriculum due to absenteeism.
